For people in parts of the GOLD COAST CITY, GYMPIE, SUNSHINE COAST, SCENIC RIM, REDLAND CITY and North Stradbroke Island Council Areas.r Issued at 4:38 pm Tuesday, 21 February 2012.r The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:35 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Coomera and Lake Cooloola. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Hope Island, South Stradbroke Island, Toolara and Tin Can Bay by 5:05 pm and Jacobs Well, Double Is Point, Rainbow Beach, Wide Bay, Inskip and Inskip Point by 5:35 pm.r Damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.r Reports of significant wind damage to buildings at Cooroy between 3pm and 3:30pm.r Rainfall of 37mm in 15 minutes was recorded at Tewantin at 3:25pm.r Rainfall of 54mm in an hour was recorded at Bald Knob (near Landsborough) at around 2:30pm.r A wind gust of 101kph was recorded at The Monument (northwest Queensland) at 1:48pm.r Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should: r * Move your car under cover or away from trees. r * Secure loose outdoor items. r * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. r * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. r * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. r * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. r * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. r The next warning is due to be issued by 5:40 pm.r A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and parts of the Northwest, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.r Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Emergency Management Queensland would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
